A resident of Wellington, Florida, Barry Fay called the police after a neighbour told him that he saw a car in the pond behind his house on the Google Maps.

We know that tech innovations help us work smartly, but let me tell you that there are things which technology solves so easily and we can't even think about it. Recently, Google Maps which is Google's web mapping service found a car with a body of a man who went missing in 1997. The 40-year-old William Moldt, who lived in Florida, US, was reported missing in November of 1997. The man has been found inside a car in a pond through Google Maps.

A resident of Wellington in Florida, Barry Fay called the police after a neighbour told him that he saw a car in a pond behind his house on the Google Maps. Barry didn't believe the person at first but engaged a friend with a hobby to hover over the pond and see for himself. Soon enough it was confirmed that there was a car. When police officers came and pull out the vehicle, they found the Moldt’s skeleton inside the white 1994 Saturn SL.

"I called the former owner of my house and asked if she knew about this," Fay told the Sun Sentinel. "She was shocked."

The 3700 block of Moon Bay Circle in Wellington, part of a housing development called the Grand Isles, is where the skeleton was found. According to the Charley Project, a cold case investigation community, the marked area had been under construction at the time of Moldt’s disappearance in 1997.

"Upon arrival deputies confirmed there was a vehicle in the pond," the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement posted to Facebook. "The vehicle’s exterior was heavily calcified and was obviously in the water for a significant amount of time. Upon removing the vehicle skeleton remains were found inside."

"On September 10, 2019, the remains were positively identified as William Moldt, who was reported missing on November 8, 1997."

Going by the notes of Charley Project, the car has been visible on Google Earth since at least 2007. Investigators still have no idea for what was happened to Moldt. He simply went missing after visiting a nightclub. That night, Moldt had called his girlfriend around 9:30pm to tell her that he was on his way home but was never heard from again.

While he wasn’t known as a heavy drinker, the public will remain unknown about what actually happened to Moldt. "You can’t determine what happened that many years ago, what transpired," a police spokesperson from the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office told the BBC. "All we know is that he went missing off the face of the Earth, and now he’s been discovered."
